Worksheet

Assignment brief mapper

Turn your assignment instructions into a traceable plan for tasks, evidence, deliverables and questions to clarify, using a blank offline worksheet.

Map the brief before drafting

  1. Keep the original brief and rubric beside the worksheet. Record an exact instruction and its location or version in each row; split compound instructions without losing their context.
  2. Explain the task in your own words, then name the evidence or material it needs. Distinguish supplied case facts, course concepts and permitted external sources; leave unknowns visible.
  3. Identify the planned deliverable or section that will do that work. This is a working plan, not a universal essay structure or a completed answer.
  4. Record explicit constraints such as scope, word-count rules, format, referencing or submission instructions. Use the brief's actual requirements; do not invent case facts, deadlines or weightings.
  5. For an ambiguity or conflict, quote the relevant instruction and ask a focused clarification question. Leave the confirmed-answer field blank until you have an answer; then record its source and date.
  6. Recheck every row against the original brief and any clarification before outlining. After drafting, use your supplied rubric to check what the draft actually demonstrates; a completed map does not establish a grade.

Download blank CSV mapper

The CSV opens in a spreadsheet application and contains seven column headers and ten blank working rows. Add rows as needed. Your completed map stays wherever you save it; this page does not upload it.

Wholly fictional clarification row

A fictional brief, version 1, paragraph 2, asks for a 1,200-word report comparing two training approaches. Task: compare both using the stated criteria. Evidence: supplied case facts and permitted course sources. Deliverable: comparison section. Constraint: 1,200 words; summary-counting rule not stated. Clarification question: does an executive summary count toward the limit, and is one required? Confirmed answer/source: left blank pending the instructor's reply. This row plans the work; it does not choose an approach or invent a course rule.

Use brief locations or short labels for restricted case material. Keep personal details, confidential case data and access credentials out of shared copies.
